Simon Ateba was born on September 15, 1984, in Nigeria. He attended the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he studied mass communication and graduated in 2008.
He started his journalism career in Nigeria, working for several media organizations, including The Nation and the Daily Independent. In 2010, he moved to Cameroon, where he worked as a correspondent for the French news agency, Agence France-Presse (AFP). In 2014, he founded Today News Africa, an online news organization based in Washington, D.C.
